The Barnabus Program - B2

The Barnabas Program is the “in house” leadership development program of Cornerstone Baptist Church Orillia. Its purpose is to train up young men for leadership within the household of faith. We do things differently in the church because Jesus told us to. He said: 

“The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. But not so with you.” 

(Luke 22:25–26 ESV)


Jesus led in a particular way, and he requires us as his followers to lead in particular ways as well. Toward that end, The Barnabas Program has been structured in the following way: 


B1 focuses on the essential CHARACTER of the Christian leader. 

B2 focuses on DOCTRINE and TEACHING.

B3 focuses on POLITY and PRACTICE and is the general prerequisite for serving as an Elected Elder. 


This coming fall we are offering a two semester version of B2. B2 is open to all those who participated in B1 as well as those who are recommended by a pastor or elder from CBC. There are always guys doing the first two sessions out of order, due to the timing of their arrival in the congregation. You can do B2 even if you haven’t done B1, as long as you go back and do it before B3.  

The Core Services are part of the curriculum. Leaders are involved in their local churches and aware of issues under discussion. In addition, we will have B2 men providing the opening devotions at the Core Services in the second semester.


As with B1, B2 requires a bit of reading. Each participant will be required to follow the RMM Bible Reading Plan for the duration of the course as well as reading each of the following 4 books:

What Is The Gospel? by Greg Gilbert. 128 pages.

Evangelism, by J. Mack Stiles.  128 pages.

Taking God At His Word, by Kevin DeYoung. 138 pages.

Expositional Preaching, by David Helm. 125 pages.

Books can be ordered online and should be secured before the first session.

Location:

The sessions will be held in the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Orillia Leadership Centre from 7:30– 9:15 pm. The Core Services will take place in the CBC main sanctuary at 6 pm. Any cancellations due to weather will be communicated via email by 5 pm the night of.
