Reading Through the Bible in a Year With Into The Word
From Pastor Paul Carter
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105 ESV)
Here at Cornerstone Baptist Church, Orillia we encourage everyone to read through the Bible in a year using the RMM Bible Reading Plan for three reasons:
- Reading through the Bible reminds us of who God is and who we are and how God has saved us through the person and work of Christ.
- Our hearts and minds are deceived by sin and confused by the culture. Reading through the Bible every year reminds us of what is true, beautiful and good.
- Using the same Bible reading plan facilitates spiritual conversation and mutual edification.
For these and other reasons, although there are a number of good Bible Reading Plans out there, we have settled on the RMM or Robert Murray M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan and have been using it in our church since 2012.
You can either download the 1-year RMM Plan using the link at the bottom, or you can find the RMM Plan on the YouVersion Bible app; just click on 'Plans', and search for 'M'Cheyne One Year Reading Plan' to access the reading schedule for each day.
How It Works:
The RMM Plan basically has you reading 4 chapters a day from different parts of the Bible. There are 4 columns of readings, so each day you will read 1 more chapter in each of the columns. On January 1, for example, you will read Genesis 1, Matthew 1, Ezra 1 and Acts 1. Then on January 2 you will read Genesis 2, Matthew 2, Ezra 2 and Acts 2. If you want to tackle it over two years, you can download the 2-year plan at the bottom of this page.
Into The Word Podcast and Resources
In 2017, we started the Into the Word podcast to help you get more out of your daily readings. We read through whole chapters – verse by verse – and provide basic pastoral level explanation and commentary. We have over 500 chapters of the Bible currently covered, plus numerous topical and introductory episodes as well. Listening to two chapters a day while you drive to work or wash the dishes makes keeping up on your plan much easier. You can find our entire library of content at intotheword.ca, or you can download the Into the Word app on iTunes or Google Play. Or, you can subscribe to the Into the Word podcast. Episodes are released in correspondence with the RMM Plan. You can also find brief devotional reflections on the Into the Word Facebook page or through the Into the Word website under the “Articles” tab.
Fun Fact: More than 2.3 million episodes of Into the Word have been listened to in the last two years alone!
We hope you will join us for this great adventure in 2024!
