It's sermon prep day for me but I needed to respond to something that just hit the news last night. Many of you will have heard that Dr. Tony Campolo just released a statement indicating that he now supports same sex marriage. If you are my age you may remember when Tony Campolo was almost the voice of Evangelicalism for a certain generation. He was the grand Evenagelical story teller and he launched a wave of young people (who are now middle aged people!) into a more missional version of our faith. However, Tony more recently also launched "The Red Letter Revolution" - a movement intended originally to foster unity between Evangelicals in pursuit of Christian mission. The Red Letter road has now led exactly where a lot of us said it would lead 15 years ago.
I've written a reflection that I hope you will read because Tony's thoughts so often come through the mouths of Christians 25-40. When you hear people talk about "the least of these" you are hearing the echo of Tony Campolo. We need to be ready to answer these folks with winsomeness and conviction. I hope this article serves you in that effort. You can find it here.
Blessings,
Pastor Paul
